Freedom!!! XD

Exams are finally over - at least for me!! Yay! XD

But now another worry arises - my results. I don't know why, but for every paper I sat for, there's always one question that I find particularly difficult to answer. Now I just hope that I can at least get a third degree in all my papers. And I'll try my very best to make up for my grades in Semester 2. I promise!

Flood in Brunei

Yesterday, my brother sent me a link to this website, www.ranoadidas.com. Apparently, very heavy rain occurred on Tuesday night and most of Brunei was flooded. It was reportedly "one of the worst floods in Brunei's history" (from 'The Flood Aftermath' at the aforementioned website). Here are the photos of the flood and its aftermath:

Taken at the tunnel at roundabout.

Car park area had ten feet of water.

Power box underneath the water.

One of the schools being affected by rain.

The flood aftermath.

This morning, when I checked out the site again. This is what I got:

Front page of today's Brunei Times.
(Details of the two victims death can be found at:
www.brudirect.com/DailyInfo/News/Archive/Jan09/22/nite01.htm)
May they rest in peace...

Controlling the traffic flow at the roundabout.

One of the VIPs passing through the roundabout.
(Don't know why they put that caption since the VIPs are not in the picture,
just the policewoman saluting).

All I can say is Thank God my family's alright =D

A 'Tribute' to My Grandfather, Lim Boon Teck

Lim Boon Teck. Born on 20th January, 1933, today would've been my grandfather's 66th birthday. But he had passed on on Tuesday, 15th March, 2005. May he rest in peace... Amen!

He has been appearing in my dreams a lot lately for the past week. I'm not sure what it means - if it's supposed to mean anything at all. Is it a sort of sign? I mean, is he trying to tell me something in my dreams or maybe I'm just missing him too much? I'm not sure if "we were close" are the right words but he had always been there for me ever since I was born. And yet, I don't know much (or more like I don't know anything at all) about him. This is all I can remember bout him:

My grandfather was a good man. I don't know much about him but I think he was originally from Tutong. He speaks Malay and Hokkien fluently. I know he used to play either billiards or pool frequently before he got stroke because I found cue sticks in his drawers when we were in our old home at Chempaka Park. He used to drive a white car with maroon interior which was very comfortable. And it had a nice old car smell too. I don't remember what his job was but I know he was really keen on getting better when he got stroke cos he was always exercising every day until he fell down. My parents would get mad at him for that cos falling could have made his situation worse. Oh, and it was really funny when my youngest brother was naughty and my grandfather would go to him with a cane in his hand. And my youngest brother would say "Mai, mai! Wa mai!" ("Don't want, don't want! I don't want!"). My family would just laugh whenever that happened cos my youngest brother just sounded so cute!

I also remember that whenever I got home from school at 12:45pm, my grandfather would be sitting in the living room downstairs, watching TV. And he would pass me the controller so that I could watch the last 15 minutes of Oprah while having lunch. He would get me Yakult, peach yogurt and other things that I liked whenever he got to town on Sunday or when we went for groceries shopping at Hua Ho. He used to help me rub my belly when I had stomachache and placed cold towel (or the thing that you stick to your head when you have a fever) on my head. He also used to rub some green colored Chinese medicine whenever I got bruised.

Usually when I got up in the morning to prepare for school, I would say "Good morning" and "Goodbye" to my grandfather before I left for school. But I didn't talk to him at all on the day he left us cos I was still mad at my sister for something she did the night before. And I really regret it would have been my last conversation with him.

I remember receiving the horrible news when my Mom called me while I was having my Business Studies class. I was devastated and couldn't help crying in class as well as to get home immediately.

And what I really regret most is that I lost the bear's claw which belonged to him. I always carried it with me in my wallet ever since he was gone. But then, MS Sports Day came and I was stupid enough to trust my bag with a friend. Unfortunately for me, she had to leave before the event ended and left my bag unattended. When I got to my bag, my wallet was gone and so was the bear's claw. Thankfully, I had my ID and my money in my track pants at the time, but still...

Despite not being able to get to know my grandfather as well as I should've, I really do miss him. After all, like I said before, he had always been there for me since I was born. Once again, may he rest in peace... Amen!

p/s: I know it happened a long time ago, but if any of you see a bear's claw (I think it was a thumb as it was pretty big, probably as big as a normal business card?) could you please let me know?

Lomographic Cameras

I've been wanting a Fisheye No. 2 lomographic camera ever since I saw it on Jenna's blog a few months back. So, I've recently decided to search for the best price available for it on the web. While browsing, I discovered that there are many other types of lomographic cameras available, which can produce lotsa different cool effects; and that made me want to get the other cameras as well. But I think I'm just gonna stick with the Fisheye No.2 for the time being. However, I'm now in a dilemma in deciding which edition to pick: White Edition, Chrome Edition or black (Paul Smith's Edition). Initially, I wanted the white one that I saw on Jenna's blog as seen immediately below.

Fisheye No. 2 White Edition
(75.04 pounds)

Fisheye No. 2 Chrome Edition
(75.04 pounds)

Chrome Edition Cameras: Supersampler, Diana F+, Colorsplasher and Fisheye 2
(243.88 pounds)

Paul Smith Edition Fisheye No. 2
(95 pounds)

Overview:
The world's greatest compact Fisheye camera is now more amazing than you ever thought possible! Not only does it have same 180-degree wide-angle view and stunning fisheye barrel distortion, but the Fisheye No. 2 adds a bulb setting for long exposures, a switch for multiple exposures on the same frame, the ability to fire both a hotshoe flash and the built-in flash, a true fisheye viewfinder, and a "full metal jacket" body treatment. With this new arsenal, the possibilities for your Fisheye lomography are endless! Uses normal 35mm film that can be developed anywhere.

Don't Touch What's Not Yours!

You know how someone can be very particular bout some things? For example, books must be arranged alphabetically; clothes sorted by type and colour; do not bend the books while reading such that it'll leave creases on them? Well, I'm that type of person. And also, I don't like it when people touch my things without my permission. As well as being the first one to use my things instead of me. And that happened today! And it got me really pissed.

Andrew left to have a meeting with the Reverend at the Anglican Chaplaincy down Princes Road today and I was left to entertain Tina (she was here for Chinese Society meeting and soon the others have arrived). So, I decided to bring my newly received copy of February 2009 Elle magazine to Andrew's room while she was on the phone. However, she was done by the time I got back to Andrew's room so we talked. Then this girl in the Chinese Society's Committee came. There weren't enough seats in Andrew's room so I let her sit on the chair, which is next to Andrew's computer table (which is also where I left my crisp new Elle Magazine). And guess what? Soon after she got on the seat, she took my magazine and was the first to read it! I mean, it's mine; so technically, I'm supposed to be the first to use (read) it! But I decided let it go for a bit. But then, she held my crisp new magazine in such a manner that it left a lot of crease/ dented marks on my magazine! And I hated it so much when I saw that but I couldn't exactly go and tell her off since there were others in the room! God, at that moment, I felt like screaming at her! I know it's really petty of me but it's just how I am bout these kindda things. I mean, it wasn't even her magazine. And she didn't even ask for my permission before reading it like it belonged to her!
